Am working on brand new styles in raku which are so very colorful and exciting to produce. For those of you who do not know what a raku clay firing process is: It is a very old Japanese process that in the mid 1900 area was westernized in the US. The ware is made with a low fire, porous clay with a final firing outside in a "top hat" kiln to 2000 more or less, then immediately taken out of this roaring fire and placed in a reducing chamber( a metal can), paper thrown in and covered immediately. And, of course, I use a face mask or goggles, protective special gloves, tongs and move cautiously. Each piece is one of a kind.
